Cercle Brugge announced Saturday the nomination as new coach of Bernd Storck.
The German, 56, has committed to the end of the season. He succeeds the 47-year-old Frenchman Fabien Mercadal, with whom the club put an end to his collaboration "by mutual agreement" on Monday.
Storck is back in the Belgian league. Last season, he managed to get Mouscron out of the dangerous zone, where the Hurlus were on his arrival in September, before making it one of the revelations of the second half of the championship.
The Cercle Brugge is red lantern with 3 points in ten days. The Brugge, who won only one game on August 24 against Waasland-Beveren, remain on a heavy defeat 6-0 against Zulte Waregem.
A former Bochum and Borussia Dortmund player, Storck was an assistant at Stuttgart, Herta Berlin, Wolfsburg, Partizan and Dortmund before starting his coaching career in Tsesna, Kazakhstan. He then led the Kazakh national team (2008-2010) and Hungary (2015-2017), which he qualified for Euro 2016, where the Hungarians were eliminated by Belgium in the round of 16 (4- 0).
"With Bernd Storck, we have a great professional who is perfectly aligned with our project vision for the Circle," said managing director Oleg Petrov. "We are convinced that Bernd is the ideal coach today to enable the Club to achieve results and achieve goals."
