<p>Yesterday evening, <strong>Apple announced the AirPods Pro.</strong> The new version of the true wireless earphones from the Cupertino company has introduced a series of new features.<strong> including the highly anticipated active noise cancellation.</strong> However, the Californian giant has decided to keep the AirPods 2 in its catalog.
A choice dictated by the peculiarities of each of the two models, with the logic of meeting the different needs of users. As we will see, Apple today offers two models of true wireless headsets profoundly different from each other, not only in relation to the list price.
Design
With the AirPods Pro, the Cupertino company has decided to embrace the in-ear standard. Beyond the different aesthetic aspect compared to the AirPods 2, this change of design will have an important impact on the ergonomics of the earphones, in the comfort of wearing them.
It will therefore be possible to replace the interchangeable pads depending on your ear. On the other hand, however you will lose the way to place the AirPods inside the ear to which the previous models have become accustomed. An important change of course, certainly one of the reasons that led Apple to keep both models on the list.
Yes, because the wearing of earphones it is a highly subjective parameter. Most of the AirPods' buyers have always found the proprietary standard, derived directly from the EarPods, or the wire earphones integrated in the iPhone sales packages convenient.
A standard that I, for example, have never particularly loved, as it hardly fits my ears. In my rescue, however, comes the AirPods Pro which, thanks to the in-ear design, should fit perfectly into my ear pads.
In addition, the different standard has brought with it also a more discreet design (the new earphones are smaller) and a different shape also for the charging case. Too bad for the choice of Apple to make, even for AirPods Pro, only one color.
Functionality
Both models they are based on the H1 chip, so there should be no substantial differences in terms of connection stability and audio quality. However, AirPods Pro can count on active noise cancellation, an important and extremely expected feature from Apple users.
Apple has also worked on what it defines the "Transparency mode", which offers the possibility to listen to your favorite songs without losing the sounds of the surrounding environment: it is ideal to warn the sounds of traffic while jogging or announcements in the station while waiting for the train. Switching from active noise cancellation to Transparency mode can be done directly on AirPods Pro using a pressure sensor on the stem.
For the rest, there should be no significant differences compared to AirPods 2 (also in relation to the autonomy) which, in terms of functionality, will continue to offer the excellent user experience to which the true wireless earphones from Apple have become accustomed.
Price
Then there is the question of list price. To grab AirPods Pro 279 euros are needed, a figure with which you also take home the wireless charging case.
The AirPods 2 instead remain in the Apple catalog for 179 euros, exactly 100 euros less than the new ones. In this way, the two models can coexist on a commercial level, without cannibalizing each other.
Beyond the price, high in both cases, the real discriminating factor for the purchase remains, in my opinion, the design. Who does not love in-ear headphones, will necessarily have to turn to AirPods 2, vice versa can refer to AirPods Pro. Admitted, of course, that you want to necessarily stay in the Apple world.
