The pensioner was indicted for spousal murder and assault on the integrity of a corpse, and then placed in custody, the prosecutor said, confirming information from the Parisian.
The burnt remains of the victim were discovered by a walker on August 31, 2017 along an isolated path in Vernouillet. Autopsy and genetic testing revealed that the body was female, aged over 10 years and under 1.65m tall.
The police had called for a witness, initially thinking it was a girl, but the identity of the victim remained mysterious for many months.
Investigators of the judicial police were finally able to identify him in June, thanks to a rapprochement with another investigation in the neighboring department of Hauts-de-Seine: the companion of a 68-year-old woman, with whom he lived in Boulogne-Billancourt, had indeed reported his disappearance in late 2017.
As part of the investigation, the police spotted suspicious movements in bank accounts and took genetic samples from objects that belonged to the victim, the prosecutor said.
It is these samples that made it possible to make the link with the deceased of Vernouillet, by means of the file of the genetic fingerprints. Arrested on Tuesday, the man admitted to having "strangled" his companion "in the context of an argument", then cut with a saw his body, he burned with gasoline in a place "which is appeared to be (…) safe to hide, "according to the prosecution.
Before the investigating judge, he used his right to silence before being imprisoned. In 2018, the Ministry of the Interior had registered 121 feminicides.
