A 70-year-old Verviers victimized for raping his neighbor

The Verviers Criminal Court on Friday sentenced a Vervietois, 70, to a three-year prison sentence with probation for rape and indecent assault committed last June on one of its neighbors bedridden since 2015 due to problems health.

The court stigmatized the fact that the defendant had betrayed the trust of his victim taking advantage of his vulnerability related to his state of health. The defendant must also follow, under the conditions imposed, a psychological follow-up related to his frustration and his sexual deviance.

The defendant opened every morning the door of the victim's building (65 years old) so that the latter could receive his care. On June 13, he touched the victim before reoffending three days later. Notwithstanding the arrival of several members of the medical profession, and despite the physical traces of the attacks, the Verviétoise had concealed the facts before revealing them on June 17. The septuagenarian had been arrested and confessed, which he had confirmed before the investigating judge and at the hearing at which he appeared to be detained.
