Volkswagen presented its electric car ID.3 in Frankfurt. The presentation of this model responds to the strategy launched "Transform 2025+", which seeks that by 2025 the German manufacturer is the leader in the new automotive industry, which is focused on electric mobility.
"This undoubtedly comes to collaborate with the manufacturer's transformation mission and in turn contribute to mitigate the generation of CO2 in the world," said Miguel Gorrías, Product Manager of the Volkswagen brand in Costa Rica.
The Volkswagen ID.3 is the first of the 100% electric vehicles of the German manufacturer. This model is based on the modular electric propulsion platform called by its acronym MEB, which also guarantees optimum weight distribution and dynamic driving behavior thanks to rear-wheel drive.
The ID.3 is the first vehicle of the Volkswagen ID family, of which all the IDs will be part. Its clear objective is to favor that the electric mobility open hollow in the segment of the great volume.
According to the German manufacturer, the ID. It stands for intelligent design, identity and visionary technologies. "ID. Is not an abbreviation of any specific term, but symbolically represents the characteristics that combine these vehicles: zero emissions, automated driving, intuitive use and personalized connectivity," says a company statement.
“The brand has already announced that by 2023 it will have invested about 9,000 million euros in electric mobility and more than ten million electric vehicles are planned to be produced in the next ten years; as well as 20 electric models. For the Latin American region, Volkswagen's electric models are expected to enter by 2022, ”Gorrías added.
The new model will be offered in Europe in three versions: a 45 kWh battery pack with an estimated range of around 330 km, a 58 kWh package with an estimated range of around 420 km, and the largest is a package 77 kWh offering a maximum estimate of 550 km according to the WLTP test cycle in Europe.
Thanks to its fast loading capacity, the ID.3, with a load capacity of 100 kW, can be charged in 30 minutes to provide an autonomy of about 290 km (WLTP) or 200 km for highway driving, much higher than the previous offer in the compact segment.
At the design level it is a completely new, elegant and modern vehicle, it looks very similar to any other propulsion vehicle. In turn, it offers spaciousness to its interior for five passengers and has a trunk of 385 liters.
The car has a digital display for the driver, a driving mode selector, as well as a 10-inch touch screen in the center of the dash for entertainment. All control elements, included in the multifunction steering wheel, which are operated with buttons with touch functions.
In addition, this model has an intelligent "Natural Voice" voice control. This is activated when the driver or passenger says "Hello, ID." to ID.3. The ID.3 indicates optically who is responding through the ID lighting system. Also, the vehicle connects to a cell phone in seconds through App-Connect.
With regard to the assistance functions, they are backed by a multi-function camera on the windshield, capable of even recognizing traffic signals. The comfort and safety functions of the ID.3 include the “Front Assist” surveillance system with emergency braking function in the city and pedestrian detection system, multiple collision brake and lane departure warning assistant, parking system assisted with reversing camera system and keyless access keyless access system ("Kessy Advanced").
The first edition of this model will offer in three different equipment versions. The basic model has a navigation system, a DAB + digital radio, seat and steering wheel heating, front armrests, a 2-way charging cable and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The ID.3 1ST Plus includes a backup camera system, adaptive cruise control and keyless access and keyless start-up system.
The interior is equipped with designer seats, center console (which includes 2 USB-C ports on the back, roller shutter closure and lighting) and ambient light. Among the exterior features, the Style exterior package in silver, LED Matrix headlights, position Matrix lights, brake, turn signals, rear and 19-inch alloy wheels as equipment.
