Under the theme "Strengthening Mutual Understanding and Improving Combined Naval Combat", these naval maneuvers aim to promote the safety and security of navigation, the freedom of sea and air navigation, and not to allow commercial activities to be carried out. prevented, in accordance with the principles recognized by the world.US officials have hoped that these naval maneuvers will help strengthen naval cooperation between the United States and ASEAN, including the exchange of information to protect the Southeast Asian region from threats in the United States. sea.

Naval maneuvers include eight combat ships and four fighter jets from seven countries, 1,250 US soldiers and all ten ASEAN countries. 1^st September, the ship 18 command of the 2^e Navy area of ​​the People's Army of Vietnam, went to participate in naval maneuvers. It will arrive on September 3rd in the maritime area at 55-60 nautical miles from Cà Mau.

ASEAN-US naval maneuvers were proposed by the US Secretary of Defense at the ASEAN-US Non-Formal Meeting of Defense Ministers in October 2017 in the Philippines. This initiative was subsequently adopted at the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting in October 2018 in Singapore.

These are the second naval maneuvers performed by both parties.
