A 19-year-old American teenager died Friday, August 30, a few days after being attacked by a pack of five dogs.
The tragedy occurred on August 23 when Andrieanna O'Shea went to a Knoxville, Tennessee home to pick up her handbag. For one reason, which remains unknown, the five dogs from the neighboring house then threw themselves on the girl.
Calls for help
According to a witness quoted by the American press, the teenager screamed and called for help as the dogs dragged her to the ground and propelled her into the air.
When help arrived on the scene, Adrieanna O'Shea was unconscious, covered with bites and clothing shredded by the animals. When she was taken to the hospital, she finally succumbed to her injuries a week later.
The five dogs, a mastiff, a pitbull, a Labrador cross rottweiler and two mastiff-labrador crosses are all dead. One of them had been shot on the spot by the police while the four others were euthanized by decision of their owners.
An investigation is still underway to shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy. The owners of the dogs are in misunderstanding, assuring that they were not trained to attack and that an electrified fence prevented them – until the tragedy – from leaving the house.
