A very macabre discovery. The remains of 2,246 fetuses were found in a doctor's garage in Will County, near Chicago.
On September 12th, a few days after the death of Dr. Ulrich Klopfer, his family began to sort his belongings. This is how they discovered fetuses in storage boxes.
Sealed plastic bags
The 2,246 fetuses were packed in sealed small plastic bags containing a chemical used in the conservation of biological materials.
"I can tell you that for 31 years I have been doing this job, I have never seen anything like it. Never, "reacted with emotion, Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley, quoted by CNN.
According to the US authorities, the fetuses would come from abortions performed between 2000 and 2002. Dr. Klopfer practiced abortions in three Indiana State clinics, until 2015, when he was suspended for reasons unknown.
For the moment, the investigators do not know under which conditions the doctor was able to bring the fetuses home. There is no indication that interventions have been made at Ulrich Klopfer's home, the authorities said. In any case, the law prohibited the doctor from keeping these fetuses.
Unusual, the case arouses a strong emotion in the state. Anti-abortion groups have come together to request the identification and burial of fetuses.
