The company, which will participate in the NYC Climate Week in a few days, has fulfilled its objective ahead of time and already uses 100% renewable electricity in all its facilities.
With the Climate Week NYC Around the corner, there are many companies around the globe that seek to join the fight for the planet that will be intensified during those days thanks to the UN summit that will deal with climate change.
One of the companies that can boast, not only to shout to the four winds its commitment to the environment, but to bring real changes, is Unilever. The multinational has announced an important milestone in its path to sustainability, and that is that the company has achieved its goal of use 100% renewable electricity in all its facilities, spread all over the world.
Not only 100% of the energy is renewable in its offices, it is also renewable in its factories, R&D centers, data centers, warehouses and other distribution points in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America Y North America.
This is an objective that Unilever had planned to reach in 2020 and that today it can cross out from its list, which includes becoming a company completely carbon neutral by 2030.
Marc Engel, director of the Unilever supply chain, explained in the official statement: "The climate emergency is one of the most urgent challenges we all face. Our team has worked hard to reach renewable energy contracts for our sites on five continents, accelerating the delivery of our 100% renewable energy goals. Of course, there is more work to be done, but we hope that today's announcement will inspire more actions elsewhere and help demonstrate that it is possible to combat the climate crisis and keep global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius. "
To achieve its goal, Unilever has worked with partners around the world to generate renewable electricity, using solar energy in its facilities in 18 countries.
We're now using 100% renewable grid electricity across 5 continents. A significant step towards our target to become a carbon neutral company before 2030. Thanks to all who have helped us get to this point. Read more here: https://t.co/QMoaBC7F12 #SustBiz pic.twitter.com/i6DN4QsRdv

The transition to renewable electricity has been carried out through the support for the development of local renewable energy markets, with 38% of its grid electricity supplied through corporate Energy Purchase Agreements and green electricity rates. Where it has not been possible to do this, it has acquired Renewable Energy Certificates (REC).
On the other hand, the multinational has invested in energy efficiency programs, which have led to a reduction in total energy consumption of 28% and a halving of carbon emissions per tonne of production since 2008.
Sam Kimmins, head of RE100 at The Climate Group, wanted to congratulate the multinational for its achievement: "Congratulations to Unilever: achieving 100% renewable electricity on five continents means that the company is rapidly advancing its RE100 objective as he works to become a 'carbon neutral' company by 2030 ".
Unilever will be part of the opening ceremony of the NYC Climate Week that will begin next 24th September.
