The House of Lords (high) approves this Friday the law that It requires the British Government to request an extension of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (EU) if there is no agreement between London and Brussels before 31 October.
This legislation was introduced by the British opposition in the House of Commons (low), which passed it urgently last Wednesday, fearing that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not stop a hard "divorce" of the European block on October 31, the date set for the break.
The head of the British State, Queen Elizabeth II, must sign the royal sanction next Monday, day 9.
The legislation is expected to enter into force before parliamentary sessions are suspended from mid-next week, a decision taken by Johnson last week.
Parliament will be suspended until October 14, a few days before the European Council, which must approve an eventual agreement between London and Brussels or an extension of the "brexit" beyond October 31.
The prime minister will again ask for Parliament's support next Monday to call early elections.
A first attempt at an electoral advance was thwarted on Wednesday by opposition deputies, who refused to accept the call to the polls until the law to curb a "brexit" without agreement has passed all parliamentary procedures.
As these are advanced elections, Johnson needs the support of two thirds of the Commons.
The conservative leader reiterated yesterday that he does not want another extension of "brexit" – after March and April – and that before requesting it he preferred "to be dead in a ditch".
