In a previously recorded televised statement, Lam announced "four actions to initiate dialogue" with the different sectors of Hong Kong society. "The government will officially withdraw the bill to completely appease people's concerns," Lam said.
"Given the five lawsuits filed by the protesters, I already announced the suspension of the law and today I want to make it clear that the law is dead," Lam said in a speech on local television, he reports. 'The South China Morning Post'.
The protests began last June for the intention of the Government to pass a law that would allow any suspect to be sent to mainland China required by the Beijing authorities.
Thousands of people took the financial center and the international airport of Hong Kong in these months to demand the definitive withdrawal of the bill, which they consider an affront to the regime of rights and freedoms inherited from the colonial period.
Meanwhile, Lam remarked that his government will not accept other lawsuits, such as an independent investigation into the alleged cases of police violence against protesters. The leader appointed, however, two new members to a police monitoring group that analyzes the matter.
Protesters also demanded the release of detainees without charges, but Lam said it is unacceptable.
News in progress that is being updated.
