The company has committed to the UN to stop global warming at 1.5ºC through the ‘Business Ambition For 1.5ºC: Our Only Future’ program.

Unilever today completes the energy transition process in which it was immersed, and begins to operate worldwide through the supply of 100% renewable electricity. In Spain, this change in the energy used by the company has been carried out thanks to an agreement with Acciona that provides energy in a sustainable way both at the headquarters of the group in Viladecans (Barcelona) and at the production plant that the company has in Leioa (Bizkaia).
38% of the green energy used today by Unilever worldwide is supplied through agreements with energy companies in each of the markets where the company operates. In those cases where it has not been possible to develop such a strategy, Unilever has opted for the acquisition of Renewable Energy Certificates. Unilever generates electricity at its own headquarters through, for example, solar energy facilities in 18 countries.
"This is an important step as a result of the company's commitment and investment in energy efficiency programs" – says Ana Palencia, Director of Communication and Sustainability at Unilever Spain -. "Achieving 100% renewable electricity in the five continents is a great step that brings us closer to our purpose of becoming a carbon-free company in 2030." In the case of thermal energy, Unilever is carrying out a change from fossil fuels such as coal and gas to a mixture of renewable fuel sources such as biomass and biogas, as well as the electrification of thermal processes.
Today's announcement comes before Unilever takes the stage to participate in the opening ceremony of the New York Climate Week and participates in the United Nations Climate Action Summit, where he will advocate the importance of limiting the increase in the world temperature at 1.5ºC, in line with the Paris Agreements. The company is committed to limiting the temperature rise to pre-industrial levels through the ‘Business Ambition For 1.5ºC: Our Only Future’ program.
In environmental matters, Unilever has halved CO2 emissions per tonne of production, since 2008. This represents a 28% reduction in total energy consumption. All these advances are developed through the Unilever Plan for a Sustainable Life, which has led to a change in the way of doing business, decoupling Unilever's growth from environmental impact.
