The Bugatti Chiron, at 482.8 km / h, becomes the fastest car in the world

The battle to become the first production model to exceed 490.48 kilometers per hour seems to be at last defined and it is that the French hypercars firm managed to set a new speed record for a production car during this weekend in Germany, nothing less than with a prototype of the Bugatti Chiron.

Objectively speaking, the vehicle managed to overcome 482.8 km / h without problems, although it is not the traditional version of the Bugatti Chiron, but of a new concept that uses its platform, so it is very similar to the current model, although it has specific modifications to achieve this record.

During the last 6 months, Bugatti worked together with the tire manufacturer Michelin, as well as with the chassis producer for the firm, Dallara, to develop a model that could become the fastest model in the world.

The prototype used for this test was a Bugatti Chiron with an extended body of 25 cm, equipped with some details similar to those presented by the Bugatti Centodieci, unveiled a few days ago in Pebble Beach as a tribute to the Bugatti EB110 of the nineties and to celebrate 110 years of the firm founded by Etore Bugatti, which managed to reach a speed of 304.77 miles per hour (490 kilometers per hour).

Faced with this great achievement, Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti He mentioned “What a record! We are overwhelmed with happiness as we are the first manufacturer that exceeds 300 miles per hour. It's a brand for eternity and I want to thank pilot Andy Wallace for his incredible performance show. ”

With this top speed, Bugatti displaces the previous records achieved by SSC (412.28 km / h in 2007), Hennessey (435.31 km / h 2013) and Koenigsegg (457.93 km / h in 2017).

For its part, Frank Heyl, Director of Exterior Design at BugattiHe talked about the prototype created for this new speed record: “The biggest challenge was not only to achieve the overall exterior design in the right way, but also the aerodynamics, the engine and the wheels. We had to achieve everything perfectly for this car. ”

It should be noted that, although Bugatti managed to break this speed mark with one of its models, this is not an official record for a production car, since the prototype that managed to set this great record is not a model that can currently be purchased with the French manufacturer, so all is not yet all lost to Koenigsegg, SSC Y Hennessey, who continue to prepare their production models.
