How did Arthur Fleck become the Joker? That's what Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips (Very Bad Trip) in Joker, in theaters October 9, 2019.
Joker looks like a big DC movie like the trilogy Batman of Christopher Nolan: dark, delicate, psychological. There will be some action, but the fans will discover especially the origins of madness dArthur Fleck. A pale, skinny, socially outcast man who has a close relationship with his mother, embodied by Frances Conroy (American Horror Story).
As for the first trailer, the new sequences offer a range of emotions, fears and discomfort. Joaquin Phoenix surprises, destabilizes and moves in the costume ofArthur Fleck, a failed comedian who gradually sinks into madness. What do we already know about the film thanks to trailers as sublime as they are worrying?
1. The origin of the name Joker
The final trailer makes an astonishing revelation, about the origin of the name Joker. While some people might think that Arthur Fleck took this "identity" by starting his life as a criminal, it is actually a stage name.
Arthur is an effect a comic, missed, but who manages to be invited into a famous stand-up show, hosted by Robert De Niro. The latter has also made fun of a performance of Arthur before, which does not bode well for the presenter.
2. The street angry with Thomas Wayne
Batman may be the biggest enemy of the Joker, it seems that his conflict against Wayne starts with Thomas, the father of Bruce. We notice that clowns hold up signs in front of the Wayne Hall, the same building from which Arthur Fleck will be ejected. Posters from Modern times are visible on the facade of Wayne Hall, for a projection unprecedented.
Clowns would not necessarily be the gangsters of the Joker group, but citizens from Gotham angry at the billionaire. By the way, in a previous scene, Thomas Wayne are dealing with "Cowards" people who wear clown masks and rule the street.
3. An appearance of Bruce Wayne
Difficult to make a film about the Joker without the Wayne family. Fans already know that Brett Cullen embodies Thomas Wayne, Bruce's father, and Mayor of Gotham City. Here is Dante Pereira-Olson who plays little Bruce, before the tragedy of his life, that no longer presents.
It remains to be seen if Arthur Fleck will kidnap the boy to put pressure on his father, that the future Joker seems to hate him above all else. In any case, this scene would take place in front of the Wayne mansion. With his red clown nose, Arthur Fleck catches the attention of young Bruce, on the other side of the grilles of the manor.
4. Gotham City goes bad
In this picture, we notice a cluster of garbage cans in front of the dinner where Arthur and the character played by Zazie Beetz spend a date. She plays Sophie Dumond, a single mother who tries to leave the misery of Gotham.
With this bunch of bins, we can deduce that garbage workers strike takes place in Gotham City, which is eaten up by crime. Judging by the scenes in the subway, dirty and unhealthy, the city does not yet know the lull that Batman will bring him later.
5. Arthur Fleck works in a clown company
Trying to break into the stand-up does not pay the bills. Arhur Fleck is therefore working in a company of clowns. We see him in a suit advertising on the street (before being beaten) and in a children's hospital.
The aggression of which he is the victim seems to be the first step towards his descent into hell, since the plan that follows his aggression shows him facing his psychiatrist, explaining that their session should stop.
6. A strong mother-son relationship
Arthur and Penny have a fusional relationship. The anti-hero takes care of his mother, suffering from mental disorders. She tries as much as possible to motivate her son to face life, not to give up and cherish him with all his heart.
Unfortunately, Penny seems dying in this image, which could accelerate the descent into Arthur's Underworld, after the humiliation by presenter Murray Franklin on television.
