A week after Chris Mortensen of ESPN report that the Dolphins granted permission to Fitzpatrick's agent, Joel Segal, to discuss a possible move with other teams, Adam Schefter of ESPN He reported Monday night that the Pittsburgh Steelers would have agreed to send a 2020 first-round pick to Miami for the Alabama product, citing sources.
Teams will also exchange low-round selections, a source told ESPN, as part of the deal.
Minkah, who had revealed via social networks his dissatisfaction with the way he was being employed in the Dolphins defense by the new head coach Brian Flores, was also frustrated by Miami's 0-2 start this season.
Fitzpatrick was recruited by Miami in the No. 11 overall turn in the 2018 draft – the second defensive back taken that year, after cornerback Denzel Ward who went fourth overall to the Cleveland Browns – after a brilliant college career with the Tide that included two national titles (2015, 2017).
The 22-year-old declined to discuss the exchange talks with reporters last Friday, noting that he wanted to focus on Week 2's duel against the New England Patriots. Fitzpatrick added six tackles in the 43-0 loss.
With the movement, the Dolphins now have three first-round selections for next year: their own, that of the Steelers, and that of the Houston Texans as payment for the offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, who was negotiated before the start of the campaign regular.
