School priest in the US bans "Harry Potter" books on the recommendation of exorcists
Exorcists advised a priest from a school in Nashville, United States, to ban Harry Potter books for fear that popular children's novels could be used to summon spirits.
Reverend Dan Reehil contacted exorcists in the United States and Rome, who recommended that he withdraw fantasy novels from the bookstore at St. Edward Catholic School in Tennessee.
Launched in 1997, the book series tells an epic story of good and evil centered on the adventures of the young wizard Harry Potter and his fight against the dark sorcerer Lord Voldemort.
"The curses and spells used in the books are curses and current spells, which when read by a human being, run the risk of conjuring evil spirits in the presence of the person who reads the text," he said in an email obtained by local media.
Although the school used to have books, it won't offer them to students in its newly opened library, Hammel said.
A worldwide success, the Potter series by British author J.K. Rowling has been repeatedly banned in schools in the United States and the United Kingdom, primarily for allegedly promoting satanic values or black magic.
