Prospect Nico Hoerner hit three hits and towed four runs in his major league debut and had some good plays as a shortstop for the Chicago Cubs, who defeated the San Diego Padres 10-2 yesterday and stopped a three-game streak .

Hoerner, 22, who was the Cubs' first choice in the 2018 draft, was summoned from Double A's Tennessee earlier in the day for the injuries of Puerto Rican shortstop Javi Baez and Addison Russell.

The Cubs maintain the second wild card of the National League.

Hoerner hit a single right on his first turn at bat in the majors, in the second inning. Two episodes later, he reached for a play of choice and scored his first race in a wild pitch. In addition, he achieved his first two tugs in a road that fell just inside the line and then moved to the left garden corner for a triple in the fifth. With the Cubs' fondness cheering him on in the sixth, he shot a two-car single in the middle of the inning.

The victory went to Kyle Hendricks (10-9), who remained in the game despite receiving a blow from Manny Machado in the right leg in the fifth. He signed a work of five episodes and two thirds in which he conceded two races, one of them clean, in seven hits, with five fans and a ball pass.

Cal Quantrill (6-7) carried the loss after admitting eight scores and 10 hits in four innings and a third in which he struck out five and gave two tickets.

For the Cubs, the Puerto Rican Victor Caratini of 5-2, with one scored.

By the parents, Dominican Manuel Margot 1-0. The Mexican Luis Urías 4-2.
