Puppies win, Hoerner hits 3 hits and tow 4 on his debut

Prospect Nico Hoerner hit three hits and towed four runs in his major league debut and had some good plays as a shortstop for the Chicago Cubs, who defeated the San Diego Padres 10-2 yesterday and stopped a three-game streak .

Hoerner, 22, who was the Cubs' first choice in the 2018 draft, was summoned from Double A's Tennessee earlier in the day for the injuries of Puerto Rican shortstop Javi Baez and Addison Russell.

The Cubs maintain the second wild card of the National League.

Hoerner hit a single right on his first turn at bat in the majors, in the second inning. Two episodes later, he reached for a play of choice and scored his first race in a wild pitch.
