An original regenerative braking system

Thanks to some indiscretions gleaned here and there from reliable sources, the Taycan should have dimensions between the Porsche 911 and the Panamera. It would be shorter and a little lower than the latter. It is also known that it offers an original feature in its energy recovery system at deceleration and braking. While most electric cars engage the regenerative system at the accelerator foot lift, the Taycan will trip when the driver presses on the brake pedal. In fact, the regenerative system will act as a super-brake assist, and will intervene on the first millimeters of the brake pedal stroke, autonomously, before the real brakes take over. A system that will probably better master the braking, when we know that the powerful regenerative braking on some electric cars does not please all drivers, who would prefer a less brutal reaction. Another interesting point: the stop lights will not turn on at the foot, unlike what happens on some other electric cars, sometimes without the knowledge of their driver.

A last teaser for the road

Last round of warm-up for the Porsche Taycan, with a small teaser discreetly concocted by Porsche in "making of" mode.

As often in this kind of sequence, we do not see much, but we see enough to make even more impatient those interested in the subject, fans of Porsche, or simple observers of evolution the supply of electric vehicles.

The video, shot as a making of an upcoming advertisement for the future electric sedan Porsche, suggests a few lines and curves of the beast, while the legend of the photos taken from this indoor shoot explains the peculiarities of the capture images when it comes to filming a car.

But beyond this little clip, the whole genesis of the Mission E project, now Taycan, surfaced three days before its simultaneous global launch in Berlin, Canada and China. If the mules of trials and development tirelessly and carefully camouflaged finally gave a fairly accurate idea of the lines and proportions of Taycan, then its performance (rather flattering, especially in its ability to keep all its power after many solicitations ), and that the interior was officially unveiled a few days ago, we still have a doubt about the look and final dimensions of the Taycan.

It is clear that while the Taycan is the serial version of Mission E, it is not for the moment the exact replica, far from it. Even if the differences are cosmetic and require an informed look, they are the perfect illustration of this good old maxim that says that the devil is in the details. We start to have a pretty good idea of the line. Of course it takes the general stroke of the Mission E, but if everything is the same, nothing is the same.

So much so that some wonder if the now famous black mullet is not a false track, and if the final forms that will be unveiled at the presentation of Wednesday will not be closer to the concept Mission E presented at the Frankfurt show 2015 . A clue ? If we look in detail at the images of the clip, we can see that the body of the car looks very clear, in an off-white tone, which is that of the concept-car Mission E original. In any case, it would be a nice shot of the Stuttgart firm, even if we think that the car that will be unveiled on September 4th will be very close to the already seen copies, and also the renderings already published by various designers from the guessed elements on the mules, and drawn in unfocused versions of their hideous camouflages, like those proposed below.

Taycan rendering

Recall that the Taycan Porsche should be marketed from the end of 2019 following a program of pre-orders (or reservations) via the Internet or at dealerships of the brand, and that this sporty five-door and four-seater sedan will position itself in the segment today occupied by the Tesla Model S. For the moment, however, it is not known if the Taycan will be equipped with advanced features of autonomous driving.

Porsche has not yet announced the final features of Taycan, although a brand ambassador has confirmed the contents of a document obtained by Automobile Magazine listing the features of each version of Taycan. According to this document, the basic Taycan will be a rear-wheel drive only, and it will be equipped with a battery of 80 kWh. It will be powered by a choice of engines of 240 kW (322 hp) and 280 kW (375 hp), and its price will be below $ 90,000.

The mid-range variant of the vehicle, the Taycan 4S, will be equipped with a 96 kW battery and electric motors of 320 kW (429 hp) or 360 kW (483 hp). The Taycan 4S award will start from $ 90,000. The Taycan Turbo, which will be the high-end version of the vehicle from its launch, will have a battery of 96 kWh, a motor of 160 kW (215 hp) front and 300 kW (402 hp) at the rear, a total power of 617 horses. The Taycan Turbo price is expected to start around $ 140,000.

At the time of its official launch, the Taycan Porsche will have traveled about six million kilometers of tests.
