Would you do it? Study reveals that 80% of Colombians are willing to invest in bitcoin.

80% of Colombians are willing to invest in cryptocurrencies, according to a study released by the Paxful company, whose managers claim that regularization of the activity is necessary.

"It was very surprising what we found in the study because we were not expecting to find that kind of response. We saw that of the representative sample that we had 80% of Colombians were interested in investing in bitcoins," Magdiela Rivas, manager, told Efe of the company for Latin America.

The executive added that another novel item is the interest that women have shown in the subject, since this was dominated by men, and stressed that between January and September the number of registered people has doubled.

"This year has been the one that has moved the most in Colombia. In what we have been going over a million dollars that have been commercialized and this month more than 30,000 transactions were made," he said.

These indexes are four times higher than those registered in Mexico and three more than in Argentina, because in the Andean country people have become familiar with the subject.

According to the study, although a large percentage of respondents would invest in cryptocurrencies, only 19.6% are willing to use them as a financial alternative.

This is due to the fact that 39.6% do not know the dynamics of the transactions, while 32.6% do not do so due to the distrust generated and 6.53% because they consider it a risk because they do not have a regulation in the country .

Therefore, the CEO and co-founder of Paxful, Ray Youssef, told Efe that in Colombia as well as in other countries those responsible for regulating cryptocurrencies are beginning to understand what it is, so he asked for a space to open to the dialogue.

"Now it is the era of regulation, all countries are looking to regulate this issue because they are seeing that many people are adopting it, so they have to regulate it," said Youssef.

The manager said banning this activity, as has been done in India or Thailand, will not be effective, as it is a "market that connects buyers and sellers to trade among themselves."

On the contrary, he highlighted the case of Japan, where cryptocurrency was already accepted as a form of money, a path that is being followed by some African countries such as Kenya.

"Instead of telling them to invest in cryptocurrencies, we want to invite users to see them as a way of making payments and exchanging goods and services in a faster and safer way," he concluded.
