Guadalajara.- The Belgian Philippe Gilbert (Deceunink-Quick Step) won on Wednesday the 17th stage of the Tour of Spain between Aranda de Duero and Guadalajara, after which the Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) maintained the leader's red jersey, he said AFP.Gilbert won the sprint his second stage in this Spanish round, ahead of the Irishman Sam Bennett (Bora) and his teammate Rémi Cavagna, giving way to a group with Nairo Quintana (Movistar) that rises to second place overall.

Quintana and the occupants of the podium of the day were part of a large getaway, which left in the first stages of the stage and came to have about six minutes ahead of the peloton and Roglic.

The presence of the Colombian in the escape forced the men of the leader's Jumbo-Visma to work in the squad, making the longest stage of this edition of the 219.6 km lap come an hour ahead of schedule .

Roglic and the rest of the favorites entered more than five minutes from the winner, but the Slovenian maintains the leader's red jersey.

Behind were Movistar's men, Nairo Quintana, who jumps from sixth to second place overall at 2:24 from the leader, and Alejandro Valverde, third at 2:48.

Thursday will take place the 18th stage of the 177.5 km lap between Colmenar Viejo and Becerril de la Sierra with four top-notch highs.
