Sam Darnold, the second-year Jets pin, has been ruled out for the match, after he had been diagnosed with mononucleosis, head coach Adam Gase reported.
The team had previously reported that Darnold was suffering from throat discomfort, but hoped he could play against the Browns.

In Darnold's absence, Trevor Siemian will be the starting quarterback for the Jets. Siemian hasn't started a regular NFL season game since 2017, when he registered a 5-5 mark as a starter for the Denver Broncos. For life, Siemian has played in 26 league games, 24 of them starting, with a 13-11 mark in the title role.
Darnold's will not be the only significant absence for the New York attack. The Jets will also be without wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who will miss the remainder of the season after suffering his second significant neck injury in the past 25 months. Gase did not say if it was an injury that put his career at risk.
Who is expected to make his debut for the Jets is the open receiver Demaryius Thomas, acquired via exchange from the New England Patriots earlier this week.
The Jets arrive at the meeting with a 0-1 mark, after falling on the opening day against their division rivals, Buffalo Bills. The Browns also arrive at the "MNF" with a 0-1 mark.
