Shanghai (China), Sep 21 (EFE) .- The Chinese giant Huawei has begun to test the first features of the connected car in more than 20 circuits in Chinese cities, which will end up being defined "completely" and will be launched "massively" when the use of 5G is widespread, spokespersons of the technology firm have indicated.
C-V2X, a wireless connection system only for cars compatible with 5G, is the one used by the firm so that the mobile network reaches the vehicle, as a smartphone or "smartphone".
The goal is to connect the car in real time with other cars, pedestrians, traffic lights, signals and other infrastructure. In short, it connects the car with its surroundings.
That the connected vehicle "becomes a connected and intelligent terminal" is the end to which Huawei aspires to reach with the 5G and thus incorporate more applications, such as the possibility of making a video call at the wheel, ordering food or making reservations, explain Company sources in an unofficial presentation of your project.
At the moment, this technology allows the driver to anticipate the circumstances of the traffic, such as knowing which car is going to start an overtaking, if another vehicle is expected to be incorporated on the next street or the remaining seconds to resume the march, options that are available with the current mobile network (4G).
The head of C-V2X Marketing of Huawei, Xu Changquing, explained this week during one of the test phases carried out that a parallel channel to the current one (that of the 4G) is needed to be able to definitively market the connected car, although the Current design "is compatible" with the 5G so that the infrastructure lasts for "20 years".
In this sector, Huawei has other partners that are committed to C-V2X technology and that are grouped in the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), founded in 2016 by Audi, BMV, Intel, Ericsson, Qualcomm, Daimler, Nokia and the Chinese technology
However, in Europe the technology on which the connected car should be based is debated.
In this sense, Huawei and its partners are positioned in favor of C-V2X technology and other companies, such as Renault, Toyota or Volkswagen, defend the ITS-G5 standard that, for the moment, has adopted Europe and that connects cars and its environment through wifi.
The European Commission launched in March its own regulation on "the implementation and operational use of cooperative intelligent transport systems" in which the regulations governing the sector are adopted, which is currently based on the ITS-G5 standard.
For their part, European Union sources clarify to Efe that its objective is "to allow large-scale deployment of C-ITS services throughout the region", although they are also open to C-V2X technology to maintain "technological neutrality "once this system reaches an adequate" maturity level ".
While this issue is resolved, Huawei has started the "massive" deployment of C-V2X for all types of cars, private and public transport, the company has detailed.
