The Spanish media conglomerate Prisa is in negotiations with different groups to sell its assets outside Spain. Portuguese media announced that the Portuguese group Cofina announced a negotiation with the Spanish group for the purchase of Media Capital, the sector leader in Portugal.
"Cofina reports that there are deep negotiations underway with Prisa … in the face of an agreement to purchase Media Capital by Cofina," the Portuguese stock exchange authority said in a statement. At this time, the prices of Cofina and Media Capital shares on the Lisbon Stock Exchange are suspended.
Among the estimates made by various media, it is said that the sale of Media Capital, which could be closed this Wednesday and that would be around US $ 281 million as the amount of the operation.
Prisa, owner of media such as El País, As, Cinco Días or El Huffington Post, Cadena Ser and Los 40 in Spain, is the owner in Colombia of Caracol Radio and W Radio. Although it has not been officially confirmed, LR learned that at the end of last week the Prisa Group received a proposal to purchase its stations in Colombia from the Gilinsky Group.
This proposal was made to Amber Capital which owns 29% of Global Prisa. Gilinsky several months ago took control of Grupo Semana, and has shown his interest in entering digital information with force.
If this operation is completed, the media sector in Colombia and the region would be reorganized, as the Spanish conglomerate has a presence in almost all the countries of the region with radio stations.
