Google It will invest EUR 3,000 million to expand its data centers across Europe in the next two years, according to the executive director of the American company, Sundar Pichai.
During a press conference in the capital of Finland, Helsinki, together with the Prime Minister of the Scandinavian country, Antti Rinne, Pichai said they would invest an additional EUR 600 million in their data center in the city of Hamina next year, raising their investment total in that center to EUR 2 billion.
“Our data center in Hamina is an important locomotive of economic growth and opportunities. It also serves as a model of sustainability and energy efficiency for all our data centers, ”added Pichai.
Data centers are important components of cloud technology where data storage and processing can be performed over the Internet connection without the need for a local hard drive.
These centers consume large amounts of energy. However, Pichai said his company was committed to minimizing its environmental impact.
Pichai also said that the 1,600 megawatts of renewable energy that Google had recently acquired would be destined to Europe through 10 renewable energy projects.
The executive director of Google said they would build new infrastructure in the European Union for the value of EUR 1 billion.
Cloud technology is an important battleground for the world's largest technology companies such as Amazon and Apple, and Google has been constantly gaining ground in this field (AA).
