Forgotten prototype: Peugeot 907 Concept (2004)

It has been 15 years since the walls of the Paris Salon 2004 attended the presentation of the Peugeot 907 Concept, an exercise in style that left no one indifferent and that, even in these times, continues to surprise.

For the designers of this concept car it was practically a dream come true, as dictated by the press releases of yesteryear. Its lines represented the union between the past and the future of motoring, so we were facing a modern reinterpretation of what Peugeot had been doing throughout history.

With the passage of time, we have seen that the French manufacturer, together with the brands that integrate PSA, continue trying to break with the established norms and offer differentiating products.

In the Peugeot 907 Concept we can see elegant touches, as well as sports, both outside and in its cabin. In the latter, the technological burden, maximum comfort and luxury were a must in the prototype.

The bodywork was largely manufactured using a carbon fiber base, measuring 4.37 meters long, 1.88 meters wide and 1.21 meters high. The battle, meanwhile, was 2.5 meters long.

The hood made use of a transparent central structure, which revealed the presence of a 12-cylinder V-block, 6.0 liters of cubic capacity and a delivery of 500 hp and 620 Nm.

A mechanical bestiality, coupled to a sequential gearbox, with 6 speeds and that sent the force to the rear axle.

The block was built by joining two 3.0-liter V6 engines, resulting in one of the most powerful concept in Peugeot's history.

All this and a retractable rear wing, made it possible that, had it come true, this car could have rivaled models of the likes of Ferrari and Aston Martin, among other high-performance brands.

The interior of the Peugeot 907 Concept was a spectacle, incorporating sports seats lined in brown leather and alcantara fabric, finished in light gray tone. Both the steering wheel and the knob of the gear lever had wooden inserts, details that positioned it in the place of the great Premium brands of the moment.

The instrument panel was analog but, in the center console, there was a touch screen, with GPS navigation and MP3 file reader, a real revolution for the times.

A pity that the rumors about the production of 50 limited units never came true.
