Volkswagen has shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show the e-Beetle, an adaptation of the historic model carried out by eClassics. Or did you think the only electric in the sample was going to be the VW ID.3?

The historic Volkswagen Beetle model It will soon have an electric propulsion system. The new times bring new technologies, but there is always room to remember the old classics.

The e-Beetle, which debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a concept, uses new components and a battery system based on the new VW e-up! (which has also debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show), as well as with a gearbox of a gear.

The Electric motor and one speed gearbox are produced in Kassel, while battery system components are supplied from Brunswick.

The battery system is integrated in the lower part and consists of up to 14 modules, each with a capacity of 2.6 kWh; in this way they achieve a power of 36.8 kWh.

The e-Beetle accelerates to 50 km / h in just under four seconds and to 80 km in just over eight seconds.

The autonomy of the VW e-Beetle, which reaches maximum speeds of up to 150 km / h, is 200 km.

In the event that the e-Beetle runs out of electricity during the trip, the built-in components produced in series allow fast charging through a combined charging system. As a result, the e-Beetle can store enough energy for a trip of more than 150 km after charging for about an hour.

Thomas Schmall, member of the board of directors of Volkswagen Group Components, has stated: “The Beetle with electrified propulsion system combines the charm of the classic model with the electric mobility of the future. We are also offering Beetle owners a professional conversion solution, using the highest quality production components. ”

Not only the Beetle may be subject to electrical transformation, but the company has ensured that the electrification will also reach other classic Volkswagen models, even, possibly, through the use of its MEB electric platform.
