Robert Kubica, with the BMW Sauber F1.07, suffered a terrible accident after touching the right rear wheel of the Toyota of Jarno Trulli. It went from side to side of the circuit, colliding with both walls and circling several times. He would miss the next race, in Indianapolis, where he premiered in F1, as his substitute, Sebastian Vettel.

The best day for Kubica and Sauber in F1. Together they won the Canadian GP, with double for the team. The Polish became world leader by four points over Lewis Hamilton, one of the drivers involved in the accident at the pitlane's exit during a Safety Car that put the race in Robert's favor. Kubica won in the same place where the previous year "was born again."

Robert Kubica was going to play the 2011 season with the Lotus Renault team, and he played the first pre-season test session in Valencia. This photo is from February 3 of that year, and only three days later, playing a rally, he suffered an unfortunate and serious accident that almost caused him to have to amputate his hand.

Years later, Kubica revealed that he had signed a contract with Ferrari for 2012. He would have been his friend's partner Fernando Alonso, and would have been in a team capable of achieving victories and fighting for the title. There remains the question of knowing what would have been of his career without that accident.

Without options in Formula 1, Kubica returned to the rallies, and tested in several categories (GT, GP3, Formula E, LMP2 …). Renault allowed him to perform a test in Valencia, in June 2017, with the 2012 car. He circled the Cheste Circuit 115 and began evaluating his return options.

With # 46 on Renault's RS17, Kubica was fourth on his return. He made more than 140 laps and discovered that the steering wheel had been modified to suit his conditions. He left a very good impression and again opened the possibility to a return in 2018.

Kubica managed to return to Formula 1 in 2018, but not as a starter. Williams opted for Sirotkin and the Polish had to settle for being a reserve pilot. "I was too honest to talk about my limitations," Robert lamented.
