U.S.

Dorian, who as a hurricane left at least 43 dead in the Bahamas this week, is now considered a "post-tropical cyclone," with maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour (155 km / h), the National Hurricane Center reported Saturday. (NHC) from the United States.

The state agency assigns this classification to natural formations that "no longer possess sufficient characteristics to be considered a tropical cyclone", but warned that it still entails torrential rains and strong winds.

Precisely, satellite data indicate that Dorian, which threatens this weekend with cyclone conditions in Nova Scotia (Canada), is stronger than previously announced on Saturday.

According to the NHC's 17.00 local time (21.00 GMT) report, Dorian advances northeast at 30 miles per hour (48 km / h) and is 170 miles (270 km) east southeast of the US city of Eastport (Maine) and 50 miles (80 km) south-southwest of the city of Halifax (Canada).

The NHC predicts that the now post-tropical cyclone will take a turn east-northeast on Sunday.

He points out that the center of Dorian should cross the coast of Nova Scotia near Halifax for the next few hours, and then cross the east of Nova Scotia towards the Gulf of San Lorenzo near Prince Edward Island tonight.

He points out that the center should pass near or over the north of Newfoundland and east of Labrador late tonight or Sunday morning.

'Dorian' leaves severe damage in the US and now goes to Canada

Dorian is accompanied by a tropical depression on Saturday in the Atlantic and tropical storm Gabrielle, which moves west northwest and maintains maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour (85 km) at 1,180 miles (1,895 km) west southwest of The Azores Islands.

This Atlantic season is expected from 10 to 17 named tropical storms, that is, with winds over 39 miles per hour or more (63 km / h), and five to nine hurricanes, with winds of 74 miles per hour or more (120 km / h), according to the National Administration of Oceans and Atmosphere of the United States (NOAA).

This is a season with a 45% chance of an "above normal" activity, which is 12 named storms, of which six become hurricanes, including three major ones.

So far from the current hurricane season, which began last June, tropical storms Chantal, Andrea, Erin, Fernand and Barry have also been recorded, which became a hurricane in July shortly before landfall in Louisiana, where left substantial material losses, but no direct fatalities.
