Condoms that, due to lack of quality, the Invima ordered to withdraw from the market

The condoms, manufactured by Nubenco Enterprises Inc, did not pass the quality controls performed by the institute. Using them, he warns, could be risky.

The National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima) frequently issues health alerts to warn of fraudulent products or that require special attention. In one of the last ones, that entity issued a rare warning: some condoms did not pass the quality tests and, therefore, ordered them removed from the market. The condoms referred to are those known under the name "Nubenco Condonfiables Lubricated Latex Condom." Its manufacturer is Nubenco Enterprises Inc. and the company that is the holder of the sanitary registry is called Pharmeuropea de Colombia. "Within the actions carried out by the Institute, non-conforming results were evidenced for the holes detection tests, burst volume and burst pressure of the condom," the health alert reads. "This quality failure implies a level of risk that could lead to the presentation of serious adverse events on patients or users, which is why it was requested to withdraw the product from the market." The recommendation made by Invima to those who have this type of products is simple: "suspend use". If you have more questions, he says, "contact the importer, distributor or marketer." In addition, it suggests verifying the health registration number on the entity's website.

It also indicates a measure to the health secretariats: "Carry out inspection, surveillance and control activities in the establishments of your competence, where they can potentially use or market the referenced product and take the sanitary measures that may take place."

In addition, it orders condom marketers and distributors to initiate a plan set by the manufacturer. Until it is implemented, they must "refrain from distributing and marketing the product."
