According to witness accounts, collected by local media, Rodrigues, 21, surprised a man stalking his girlfriend at a Bertioga settlement, about 110 kilometers from Sao Paulo, and, "angry," the soccer player faced him in the company of some of his friends.
After he was attacked, the suspect left the premises, but immediately returned carrying a knife. The individual then dealt multiple stabs to the player, who came to be transferred to a hospital where they could not do anything for his life.
According to the Civil Police, the author of the crime was arrested in flagrante, although his identity has not been disclosed.
Born in neighboring Guarujá, also on the São Paulo coast, Rodrigues acted in the sub-23 category of the club Esporte Clube Rio da Praia, founded in 1964 and one of Bertioga's most important amateur soccer teams, which "has played dozens of championships," according to the training. EFE
