The four member of the most futuristic family of Audi has just seen the light at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is called Audi AI: TRAIL quatto and closes a cycle that began exactly two years ago in this same scenario, when the Ingolstadt brand surprised us with the first member of this family, the Aicon.
These two prototypes linked to the AI: RACE –before called PB18 e-tron– and the AI: ME, focused on the city, shape the brand's global future vision and share several qualities with each other as a electrical mechanics, with zero emissions and the possibility of traveling autonomously, without the least intervention of the driver.
The Audi AI: TRAIL quattro moves these qualities to an environment as demanding as that of off-road driving. It measures 4.15 meters long and 2.15 wide and has a height of 1.67 meters thanks to its huge 22-inch off-road wheels.
Provided with four electric motors, systems for assisted and autonomous driving and a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, this vehicle is trained to access the most rugged areas with an extra ecology and important safety.
With an outer length of 4.15 meters and a width of 2.15 meters, the height of this concept rises to 1.67 meters thanks to large 22 inch wheels with off road tires. The ground clearance is also very wide: 34 centimeters and the frame is made of high strength steel, aluminum and carbon fiber which allows it to declare 1,750 kilos of weight.
Regarding its motorization, we find four electric motors installed one on each wheel that generate 320 kW of total power –435 hp– and that they also deliver a very high torque: 1,000 Nm, although when the vehicle moves with traction on a single axle, these figures are reduced by half.
The Audi AI: TRAIL quattro declares a maximum speed of 130 km / h and the objective of the brand is that its lithium-ion batteries – installed on the floor of the car – allow it to offer an autonomy between 400 and 500 kilometers according to WLTP regulations. In off-road use, this will be quite smaller: 250 kilometers.
Audi thus completes its family of 'AI' models, designed so that customers can have the vehicle they need at the right time. Thus, we talk about some cars designed to be exchanged during their useful life thanks to a rental program called 'Audi on demand' that the brand will develop in the coming years.
