Rivian will be producing electric vans for Amazon for the next 10 years

Amazon commissioned 100,000 electric vans to Rivian, the new American electric vehicle company (EVs), to handle the delivery of its packages in the following years, said Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, during a climate change event in Washington DC last Thursday.

Minutes after the announcement, Amazon vice president of operations Dave Clark tweeted a picture of the van along with the following message: “Our fleet is electrifying! Glad to announce the order of 100,000 electric delivery vehicles, the largest order of electric delivery vehicles in history. Watch for new vans starting in 2021. ”

The goal of both companies is for Rivian EVs to start delivering in 2021, starting with 10,000 vans by 2020 and the remaining 90,000 by 2030.

This is the largest electric vehicle order in history, and Amazon's plan to join the fight against climate change.

Rivian, which was officially launched last year, does not have any vehicles available in the market yet. However, the brand caught the attention of the industry last year for presenting the first electric pickup that has ever been presented, ahead of large companies such as Tesla and other more advanced manufacturers.

His innovation and fresh proposal brought him interest from one of the largest technology companies in the United States, Amazon, who invested $ 700 million in the car brand last February.

While Amazon did not disclose the reasons behind its investment in the company months ago, we now know that Rivian will take an indispensable role in Amazon's package delivery.
