(Ecofin Agency) – Tunisia will receive US $ 335 million in aid from the US government, announced this week the Tunisian Ministry of Development and International Cooperation.
According to the institution, the new aid granted through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) aims to support the country's democratic transition. Spread over five years, it will fund projects that encourage private initiative, create new employment opportunities for young people and improve governance.
Thanks to this financing, the country hopes to succeed in reversing the unemployment curve and curbing inflation, two scourges affecting the economy of the first Arab democracy. According to statistics, the country's unemployment rate has already reached 15% for an inflation rate of around 6.5% last July.
While the next presidential election is scheduled for September, the theme of reviving economic growth should be the focus of debate, in a context marked by discontent of the young population, first affected by the country's economic crisis.
