More than 300 employees Apple had charged to listen to conversations between users and Siri were
laid off this Friday. These people, employed by subcontractors, had to analyze and evaluate the quality of the answers provided by the voice assistant.
The dismissed employees were contractors working in Cork (Ireland). They received only one week's notice. Employees working for other Apple subcontractors in Europe have also lost their jobs, unveils The Guardian.
"Does only their reputation count? "
It is already the British media that had unveiled at the end of July, the existence of this listening system set up by Apple. Employees had confided to be regularly brought to hear private exchanges, even intimate. Revelations that had
pushed the American giant to suspend the program at first, before ending it permanently.
In Cork, employees had been on paid leave on August 2nd. They then learned about their dismissal. Many of them were told that the workload had decreased as a result of a "technical error". "They do what they want and when your project is finished or when they're shitty (like what happened there), they tell the subcontractor to fire you," says one of them, questioned by The Guardian. Did they think for one second to protect their employees? Or does their reputation count? "
