Defense Minister Naftali Bennett on Thursday ordered the IDF and the coordinator of government operations in the Occupied Territories, in coordination with the Palestinian Authority, to close the city of Bethlehem in the face of concern about the infection with the Corona virus.
Therefore, movement of Israelis and Palestinians into and out of the city is prohibited. The minister’s decision was made in light of the identification of several cases of the virus infection in the Bethlehem area, and after consultation with the National Security Office (NGO) and the coordinator of government operations in the Occupied Territories, Maj. Gen. Kamil Abu Rukon.
The closure will take effect from the evening, Thursday, March 5, 2020, on Thursday, until a new announcement.
Earlier today, seven Corona patients were discovered in Bethlehem, and the PA declared an emergency. As part of the emergency, there will be no school attendance, meetings will be avoided and foreign nationals staying in hotels will be canceled.
So far, 17 people have been found infected with the Corona virus. The latest to be discovered is a central-country pensioner who returned from Italy on February 29. The patient drove from the airport to his home in his private vehicle, arrived at his home and went into immediate isolation.
He was on a flight from Venice to Tel Aviv by EasyJet, departing at 12:20 and numbering EJ3342.
Anyone who has been on this flight is asked to enter home isolation as directed by the Ministry of Health and report it on the Health Ministry website or the Health Ministry hotline at * 5400.
If symptoms of fever or coughing or difficulty in breathing occur during isolation, call MDA hotline 101 immediately to determine the need for the virus.
