Genoa. The health management of the San Martino hospital has communicated that a 79-year-old patient residing in the province of Savona admitted to the Genoese polyclinic died this morning. The patient had been transferred from ASL 2 to the night, where he was already hospitalized.
The elderly man was initially managed by the team of the infectious diseases department of the Savona hospital for severe bilateral bronchial pneumonia but by presenting a very complex clinical picture, it was decided to centralize him at San Martino at midnight, in the resuscitation department. According to what was reconstructed by the medical task force, the patient was passed through the red area of Veneto and he may have contracted the virus on that occasion.
Meanwhile, Alisa said that the Neurology of the San Paolo hospital in Savona is open and operational where the man was hospitalized, with a complex clinical picture, in a single room.
The 14 patients who were hospitalized in the neurology department were transferred to the day surgery of San Paolo di Savona, prepared in advance to accommodate any emergencies.
The transfer of patients took place following the necessary procedures to avoid contamination. The Neurology department of the San Paolo Hospital is therefore regularly operating in the new location.
Following the finding of the patient’s positivity to coronavirus, nurses who had exposure to potential contagion were placed under active surveillance and the original site of the department has undergone scrupulous sanitation.
