
A month ago the Swedish low cost clothing chain H & M had announced it could be forced to cut tens of thousands of jobs after the closing of thousands of stores all over the world for the emergency coronavirus.After nearly two months of lockdowns and 3,441 stores closed worldwide for the emergency, the company discussed the employment future of 7 stores in Italy that will be permanently closed.
As reported by UILTuCS, the company has communicated to union organizations the closing times of the following stores:
• The first 3 stores that will not reopen after the Covid 19 phase are 2 a Milan and 1 a Udine
– the Milan stores that will not reopen are those of Corso Buenos Aires is that of via Turin for a total of 70 workers.
– the store of Udine includes 14 employees.
• The other stores affected by one closing expected between August and November are the following:
– Grosseto, closing scheduled for 9 August 18 operating units
– Gorizia expected closure November 8 12 operating units
• 2 sales outlets in Vicenza center 16 operating units e Bassano in the province of Vicenza 18 units operating the closings are scheduled between August and November.
The total of redundant units is 145 divided as follows: 39 part-time, 62 full-time, 10 fixed-term and 34 on-call workers for whom UILTuCS had already contested the improper use of the type itself.
According to the company, the decision to close the 7 H&M stores was made by the Swedish parent company, stating that this choice is considered essential for the continuity of the other 172 stores.
