The leader of the Sardine Movement, Mattia Santori, explained to AGI that he received a call from Pope Francis in mid-January. “In mid-January – he says – I received a call from an assistant to the Pope who then said that the Holy Father would have liked to confer like me. I was stunned. It was a nice call and the plan was to meet in April but given the ongoing health emergency it was not possible “. Santori said he wanted to keep this episode confidential (to date) “although in the election campaign, according to some, it could have been useful to make it public, but we decided not”. Santori adds: “I think I haven’t said a word. I listened. The Pope remained very ‘super partes’ but we felt appreciated. The message – recalls Santori – that came to me from Pope Francis is this: “I observe you, I follow you, I understand your words and what you are asking”. We in politics have asked to respect the dignity of people. It is very nice to know that the Pontiff observes what is happening in society “” . “During the election campaign, we were very attacked on the media and we were targets of the mud machine”, while “we received listening and understanding from the Pope”, concluded Santori.
But the Pope’s call was a joke on the radio broadcast La Zanzara of Radio 24. As reported by Dagospia, “it was a fake Pope who called Santori to organize a meeting, through the Vatican secretariat of state”. A joke never disclosed, explains the site, which now, after the “revelation” of the leader of the sardines, has surfaced.
