North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has died today at the age of 36 – BBC News reported on Saturday. He reportedly died of the Corona virus. Earlier this week CNN reported that Kim had undergone surgery and that the US government had been monitoring reports that it was “in great danger.”

Earlier today, the Daily Star claimed that reports from Asian correspondents in North Korea were in a serious condition and were in a coma. In contrast, Reuters reported earlier that China had sent a team of specialist doctors to assist the leader, and that his condition was improving and he was recovering from the surgery.

On Tuesday, a senior US intelligence official said Kim had undergone medical and life-threatening procedures, according to a CNN ad. Despite requests from the communications body, reports have not been verified by intelligence agencies, in part because of the difficulty in gathering intelligence from the closed state. Concerns about the leader’s health emerged after missing his grandfather Kim Il Sung’s birthday celebrations on April 15, despite appearing to be functioning and active four days earlier, so during a government meeting.

In neighboring South Korea’s media, the leader reported having had heart surgery earlier this month, a few days before his last date. They say that Kim’s weight, smoking habits and overwork led to his poor health.
