In 24 hours conditioned by the small number of swabs compared to the average of the period, just 32 thousand, “fault” of the festive bridge, there was however a record decrease in hospitalized patients with symptoms in ordinary wards: -1,019, of which 956 in Lombardy. The sick, the “currently positive”, who now number 105,813, drop by 290 (yesterday they had risen by 156); the total number of infected people (which also include the dead and healed) grew by 1,739 units (the increase yesterday had been 2,324) and started at 200,000.
The discharged people now amount to 66,624: in one day the healed increased by 1,696 units (they were 1,808 on Sunday). There are 333 victims per day, a higher figure than yesterday, when the smallest increase had been recorded since March 15 (+260).
Covid victims, are 10 thousand deaths missing? The increasingly impressive total of deaths for Covid 19 is now 26,977. A figure that could lack 10 thousand deaths, according to an estimate elaborated by a group of physicists from the La Sapienza University of Rome and from the Temple University of Philadelphia, in the USA. The basis is Istat data on deaths compared to previous years in a number of regions. In short, the victims could be over 35 thousand.
The situation in Lombardy Still mixed signals from Lombardy, the epicenter of the pandemic in Italy. In addition to the massive drop in inpatients, deaths (13,449 in total, half of the national total) increased by 124 compared to yesterday, when they had been 56. The positives are 73,479, with an increase of 590, but the swabs carried out were only 5,053 (12,642 on Saturday). On the other hand, there are now 680 inpatients in intensive care and “compared to April 3, they have more than halved, given that we had about 1,400 people”, underlines the vice-president of the Region Fabrizio Sala.
As a demonstration of the still difficult situation of the Region, compared to, for example, Veneto which was the other territory initially most affected, there is however the percentage of positives on the cases tested: 19% in the last 24 hours in Lombardy compared to 1 % in Veneto. The first drop in patients in Piedmont, -11, in the region which has become a case in recent weeks.
Chaos Phase 2, the leap forward of VenetoThe differences between the situation in the various Regions are the central theme also in view of Phase two. “The lockdown, the total closure, no longer exists”, was in fact the announcement of the Veneto which, from 18 on Monday, allowed the individual movement for physical activity and in the open air, even by bicycle. Green light from tomorrow also to travel to second homes or boats moored outside the municipality of residence, but only for maintenance or repairs.
“No muscle test”, explains the governor Luca Zaia, even if the measures announced yesterday evening by Prime Minister Conte seem to have cracked the relationship between the government and the regions, divided between those who fear a too hasty restart, like Piedmont, who would like to do it first, like Sardinia and Umbria, and those like Liguria call for “greater autonomy”.
Lombardy: “Mask remains mandatory, but reopen commercial activities” Attilio Fontana, with the announced Phase 2, also criticized that on May 4 in Lombardy he would “reopen some commercial activities, some shops”. While maintaining the obligation of the masks, which instead is not yet in Piedmont, and perhaps “not throughout the day, alternating morning and afternoon with limited entrances and with controls of who enters it”. “It is not a question of courage, it is realizing the reality in which we live – says the Lombard governor -: if we had to wait for R0 we would not open for a long time …”.
Piedmont: “No a take away” Who would have liked “a little more time” is Piedmont, with the governor Alberto Cirio convinced that we have to start again, but with “prudence”. Yes, therefore, to the reopening of the production activities, but no take away, because it can create “difficult to manage gathering situations”, nor movements to the second houses, “which we will allow later”.
