Fiumicino airport

PERUGIA He trembled and suffered. He was afraid and only at Fiumicino did he realize that the nightmare was over, with Spain now far away, leaving behind the merciless daily bulletin on the increasingly invasive coronavirus emergency in that country. She, a twenty-one year-old Eugubine university student, is recovering all the stress accumulated for days and days in fiduciary isolation for two weeks, as provided by the health indications for those returning from abroad. Two months spent in Spain it brings with it a beautiful memory, at least until the fright began to take over when the university closed and remained holed up in its apartment in Galicia, in the Iberian north-west, with two study companions.

“At the beginning it was all quiet – he says -, there were no critical situations I knew in Italy. I didn’t worry too much, then the first cases emerged with a frightening crescendo. Where I was, there weren’t many cases, but I was realizing that the risks increased. ” He hoped to have concrete help from the University for Foreigners of Siena, from the crisis unit of the Foreign Ministry and from the Italian Embassy in Madrid. But the school and institutions have not gone beyond a few courtesy and closeness emails, with generic indications without giving any practical assistance despite the government’s continuous reassurances on support to encourage the return from Italians from abroad, especially students. He faced everything with family members, in daily remote dialogue to find a solution that was as risky as possible. It was all terribly complicated to leave. Then, the return and release. Shining eyes, a smile and a few words moved as if he had set foot on earth returning from the moon. Erasmus had turned into a via Crucis for her, suddenly forgetting the first few weeks she spent studying with educational trips to other Iberian cities to Portugal. At the beginning it was a fairy tale, then the first disturbing news from Italy and the cases that erupted in Spain in the chaos every day more unmanageable.

The young woman has studied with the material from the PC since the Spanish university closed its doors for the emergency, making the minimum movements in agreement with the girls who shared the apartment, while looking for a way to return to Italy. The search for a solution has materialized with the possibility of booking a flight online from Madrid to Rome while having to organize the simultaneous transfer from Galicia, or how to deal with six hundred kilometers to reach the Madrid airport. With internal flights blocked, the girl chose the train by booking the ticket online. At the railway station, however, the nasty surprise of finding the trains suspended and therefore the need to use a private vehicle to reach Madrid in a hurry to not miss the plane, then finding those who brought her back to Fiumicino in Gubbio. The outburst with family and friends on the doorstep before going into quarantine, having however followed all the advice on how to best face the trip to protect yourself. As soon as the parents returned, they warned the Local Health Authority, scrupulously implementing the measures envisaged, without ever coming into direct contact. Keep in touch with the girls she met and, to be honest, something has left us: a suitcase, because in fear of not being able to embark in Madrid they advised her to avoid checking in with bulky luggage. To run away, he hasn’t thought twice.
