Almost 2,500 positive people per coronavirus in Liguria, just under half admitted to hospital, 358 people died and 2,479 others (numbers updated on Saturday evening) in isolation between the walls of the house, in active surveillance because possible suspicious cases.
And it is this latter number, a few dozen higher than the positive ones already diagnosed, that worries the most: people who have not yet carried out the swab and who may have symptoms that, with the passing of the days, could worsen and force hospitalization , further burdening the health system and also putting citizens’ health at risk.
In short, the problem is becoming submerged, all those people who are within the walls of the house have symptoms – in some cases even serious, high fever and strong cough – but they are not subjected to the tampon, perhaps because they are already under active surveillance It is no coincidence, therefore, that the Region has decided to rush to the field by enhancing the response of territorial medicine and giving a mandate to the socio-health directors to strengthen the service of the Structured Groups of Territorial Assistance (GSAT): objective, to identify the most at risk, especially the elderly, to analyze their clinical picture.
It starts with 7 teams, one per district, which will rise to 9 in the coming days, to which is added a team specifically dedicated to mountain areas. The teams are made up of a continuity care doctor or a volunteer family doctor and a nurse, and their task will actually be to act door-to-door, analyzing individual cases to check people’s health and ascertain contagion also by swab.
Coronavirus, three babies born to positive mothers at San Martino
“We also gave the prevention departments the mandate to increase the teams on tampons using all the sanitary workers free from other assignments to reach all the people at home. There will also be an upgrade of the switchboards for the calls “, said the Ligurian governor Giovanni Toti, adding that” Liguria is the region that has the most intensive care places in relation to the number of inhabitants “.
Toti then pitted the numbers of the incremental plan developed for the emergency: 1072 medium intensity posts, to which 52, 183 intensive care posts, 93 semi-intensive posts will be added shortly.
«The number of beds will continue to increase, as unfortunately there will still be many who need hospitalization. This is also why we need to increase assistance in the area as well “.
Coronavirus, controversy between Toti and family doctors
During the daily point made on Saturday, Toti also tried to throw water on the fire of the controversy born with the Family Doctors Federation after a few sentences on the work of hospital professionals and those in the area: «I never wanted to make controversies with family doctors. I could also do them with the little vultures that with the negligence of their government, certainly not ours, try to gain a minimum of visibility: meanness to which we must not give any weight. I know there are many doctors who heroically answer all requests ”
The appeal of the newly qualified young doctor: “Ready to do my duty, but don’t throw us away afterwards”
“Today we are in an extraordinary situation and not all the guarantees that everyone has under contract – added the Ligurian governor – I simply ask the local doctors to keep the phone on 24 hours a day, to answer even when they are tired and to bring a word of comfort to those who need it. Nobody wants to send people to slaughter, I ask to be there, to relieve our switchboards, which many do and I know it well. I ask if everyone is at peace with their conscience, if they have done everything they had to do. It is a time when instead of looking at contracts that provide for two or three hours of availability, it is necessary to look at the needs of citizens. This is my appeal and it has nothing strange or controversial: we are asking everyone to do what is in their power to do. Those who want to understand it understand, those who do not want to understand it are controversial ».
CGIL attack on positive health workers: «Inadequate region»
The unions have pointed the finger at regional management of contagion risk and cases of positivity among health workers.
«From the data provided by the Liguria Region and the Genoese health companies we see that at Gaslini, compared to 157 swabs made to health personnel, 2.5% (4) is positive, in San Martino out of 317 swabs the percentage is 5.5 , at the Galliera it rises to 13.8% (44 positive) on a similar number of tests and leaps to 17% in ASL 3 out of about 195 tampons », write Maurizio Gualdi and Andrea Nanni of Fp Cgil.
“These data highlight and confirm at least three aspects: that health workers are highly exposed to infection; that the number of tests performed is extremely low compared to the total number of workers exposed; that there are differences, see the percentage of the Policlinico San Martino and that of the Galliera with the same number of swabs carried out, difficult to refer to randomness ».
Bucci around the city: “Few people, keep it up.”
In the second weekend of total closure, the mayor Marco Bucci made some inspections around the city, saying he was satisfied for having found it semi-deserted, also thanks to the Civil Protection and Local Police teams in charge of controlling the most popular areas for prevent gatherings.
“I found very few people, among them the Civil Protection volunteers, who are on the street to carry out a fundamental protection task – said Bucci in the evening – I thanked them for their contribution. Thanks also to all of you, Genoese , that you stay at home respecting the strict rules: an act due to protect the health of all of us ».
“The containment measures are working – added Toti – Slowly we are learning that if we all do our duty this disease can be defeated. I am proud to say, and it must be a pride for all Ligurians, that all those who needed medical treatment in Liguria had resuscitation rooms, medium-intensity beds and hospital stays ».
Cruise ships, the point on the situation: landings and people in isolation
Cruise ships are another complex front in emergency management. From Sunday it will begin to land and return to their homes and in their countries part of the 1,116 people who make up the crew of the MSC Splendida, docked on Friday in Genoa.
The first 308 Indonesians will leave on Sunday with a charter from Malpensa, to arrive, within a week, to leave most of the people, so that only 200 crew members remain on the ship, the minimum deemed essential to maintain the ship.
In addition to the Indonesians, 188 Filipinos and 100 other members of the European Community will leave by Wednesday next week.
“The procedure adopted in agreement with all the subjects involved aims to repatriate all the crew as soon as possible – explain Toti and the regional councilor for civil protection, Giacomo Giampedrone – taking into account that it is a clean ship where it is not there are cases of Covid, also because our health cannot afford to be further burdened given the enormous effort that it is already making ».
“As for the MSC Opera ship already present for a few days in the port of Genoa – added Giampedrone – and where, among the crew members there are some positive people, one of whom was hospitalized in the Galliera, is thinking of reducing further the load currently on board ».

Hospital ship, first form filled: there are 26 patients on board
The number of patients transferred from city hospitals aboard the Gnv Spendid, the hospital ship docked in Ponte Colombo in the port of Genoa, also rises.
On Friday, another 5 people were transferred, three from Liguria (an 83 year old woman from the Galliera, one 40 from the Villa Scassi and a 82 man from the Villa Scassi) and two from Ecuador (a 29 year old man and one 60-year-old woman, both from Villa Scassi).
Hospital ship also in Los Angeles, the “Genova model” in the USA
The ship, operational from Monday 23 March, was delivered by the company of the MSC group to the Liguria Region to host positive people at Covid-19 who must conclude their recovery after being discharged from hospitals, after passing the acute phase of the disease, but in the last few days, to lighten the load of hospitals, people who still show symptoms, but in good health, also arrived on board. All are assisted by medical personnel, to whom an infectious disease specialist from the San Martino Infectious Diseases department joined on Friday.
All persons assisted on board must continue the hospitalization process until the swab has been negative, when they can be discharged, guaranteeing individual and citizenship security.
