A company note reports that The Cal 2021 will not be released given the coronavirus emergency that has hit the planet

Pirelli has announced that the 2021 calendar will not be released. The project was canceled in consideration of the coronavirus emergency and the company decided to donate, in addition to other initiatives already undertaken by the group, the sum of 100,000 euros. This is what is learned from a note issued by the company on March 24. The Cal, as it is called the calendar that Pirelli publishes every year involving internationally renowned photographers and models among the best known in the world, will therefore not be released next year.

“It has already happened in the past, in 1967 and then from 1975 to 1983, that the Pirelli Calendar was not realized. The extraordinary Covid-19 emergency pushes us to do the same today,” said executive vice president and chief executive officer, Marco Tronchetti Provera. “We will get back to work at the right time, together with those who were by our side today in the project.”

The production machine to make The Cal starts up months in advance, more or less in this period, but as it is easy to imagine, this year it would be impossible to be able to produce the calendar for 2021 without having certainties on when the block will return due to the coronavirus epidemic that is affecting the whole world. Therefore understandable the choice to cancel the project and donate an important sum in favor of the fight and research against coronavirus.

Last year it was Paolo Roversi’s turn to interpret the annual appointment with the Pirelli Calendar and for the occasion the photographer, the first Italian to deal with it “alone”, had reinterpreted the Shakespearean character of Juliet with an evocative title such as “Looking for Juliet” . Among the protagonists of the 2020 calendar the actresses Claire Foy and Mia Goth, Emma Watson, Indya Moore, Yara Shahidi and Kristen Stewart, with the photographs that had been taken between Paris and Verona in the month of May 2019. So easy to understand why this year it was necessary to reluctantly cancel the project.
