During an interview with Vanity Fair, the astronaut now retired Chris Hadfield he enjoyed “reviewing” some of the most celebrated modern science fiction films, from Interstellar to The Martian, passing through Gravity and other.

Right on the film Alfonso Cuarón Hadfield’s judgment fell more severely, which he called a work “so far from reality that your head is spinning“.

Words that will surely surprise many fans of the film, which unlike most fantasy space movies like Star Wars or Guardians of the Galaxy, is famous for a “realistic” vision of what it takes to be an astronaut: for the uninitiated, the work tells the story of a group of astronauts who get stuck in space after the destruction of their satellite in orbit; and while the rest of the team dies one after the other, Dr. Ryan Stone, played by Sandra Bullock, remains alone and alone will have to find a way to return to Earth.

The most experienced astronaut in American history is a woman, she is Peggy Whitson. In this film, Sandra Bullock has been an astronaut for less than a year. When faced with a problem, he panics and has no idea what to do. George Clooney is kind of a space cowboy and he’s the only one who has any idea what’s going on. I think the film risks ruining the idea that a girl can have of an astronaut woman, and ruining it for an entire generation“.

Fortunately, the films are free from the rules of reality, and Cuarón’s is considered by many to be one of the best works of the 21st century: after his world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where he won the Future Film Festival Digital Award, Gravity it got an avalanche of prizes in practically all the cinematographic demonstrations of the world, and reached the 86th edition of the Academy Awards with 10 nominations, winning 7 statuettes: best direction in Cuarón, best special effects, best photography, best editing, best soundtrack, best sound and best sound editing.
