AIE Aie Aie. Just revealed, not yet available on the French market, the two new headliners of foldable smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and the Motorola Razr, seem to demonstrate a certain fragility in screens. A few days apart, an American journalist and a British technology enthusiast revealed how their screens were damaged, after less than a week of use for the first and a few minutes for the second. The common factor could be cold.
Motorola Razr in arrears
The first case comes from New York, where Raymond Wong, journalist for Input magazine, tells how the screen of his Motorola Razr started to come off the chassis after only a week of use. As can be seen in the image below, the problem is concentrated on the central part of the screen, where the folding is done.
In his article, the American journalist explains that he did not drop his smartphone or take any action that could have led to this malfunction. Only probable explanation, according to him: the shock of the temperatures between his heated apartment and the outside, whereas it was -2 degrees Celsius in New York the day when this problem occurred.
First problem with the Galaxy Z Flip from the UK
The second case comes straight from a tweet posted by a British man on Twitter, self-proclaimed “tech addict”. He explains, photo supporting, that the screen of his Galaxy Z Flip cracked on the central part immediately after receiving his package and removing the protective film from the screen. He would have heard a crack distinctive when the screen is damaged.
Received my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip just now. Opened the box. Removed the protective / instruction film. Flipped the phone as you would do since it’s a flip phone and this happened. I heard the crack as well. 😰 cold weather?#SamsungGalaxy #ZFlip #samsung pic.twitter.com/j8KLL2vm8d

At present, it is impossible to verify the tweeter’s claims. However, he points to the possibility that the ultra-thin glass on the Galaxy Z Flip may have cracked due to the temperatures in Liverpool, the city where he claims to reside in his biography.
Samsung contacted him via the social network, while Motorola has still not answered questions from Input on the subject. It is assumed that the two companies have carried out a battery of tests concerning the weather resistance of their devices, but these two stories, for the time being anecdotal, could reveal a weakness of foldable smartphones at this level. Or would the technology just not be developed?
