The Corona virus crisis is considered one of the most difficult cases in El Al history. Last week, the company announced that as a result of the crisis, which promptly halted flights to Italy, temporarily canceled routes to the Far East and announced the postponement of the planned opening of the Tokyo flight line, the company expects $ 50 to $ 70 million in revenue in January to April.

As a result, he announced last week
El Al’s CEO, Gonen Ussishkin, said that the company would be required to reduce the workforce and say goodbye to a thousand people – from a workforce of more than 6,000 employees. El Al’s management is holding discussions with the Histadrut since last week regarding the volume of layoffs and assignments – with no clear decision until so.

At an event held by EL AL employees today,
Arkia Wisraier said Sharon Ben Yitzhak, chairman of the El Al workers committee: “We have been listening to ministers and decision-makers in recent weeks. We are crying and asking today and now from the Israeli government: We are soldiers of the state, there are pilots, technicians, mechanics, electricians here that are responsible for our fighter jets being in the air. We are all citizens who drive the economy of the state of Israel, a proud middle class, who run a household under the cost of living and never complain. And always called for the sake of the state and for the citizens – every mission and every time, and so we will continue to do so in the future. This time, this call to the Israeli government cries out the plight of 6,500 households in Israel. ”

El Al said in response: “Continuing to deal with the consequences of the Corona crisis, and as part of the workforce adjustment process for the Company’s operations, a message was issued to El Al flight trainees, airmen and grounders who were not yet certified that their training process had ceased and would not be absorbed as Company employees at the time. This is also the case, the company is making adjustments, including the opening of air and ground flight attendants, which were due to begin soon. It should be emphasized that there are no new hires for the company until a new announcement. “
