Almost a year after the opening of a preliminary investigation into suspicions of abuse of social property at Renault targeting in particular its ex-boss Carlos Ghosn, the Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) prosecution announced on Wednesday that it had forwarded the investigation to an investigating judge.

The former boss of the Renault-Nissan alliance is particularly suspected of having organized two private parties at the Palace of Versailles, in exchange for a sponsorship agreement signed between the brand with the diamond and the establishment that manages the castle. This opening of judicial information comes two and a half months after his incredible flight from Japan where he is accused of financial embezzlement revealed by the Japanese manufacturer Nissan.

The deposed Franco-Lebanese-Brazilian boss had been released on bail and placed under house arrest in Japan with a ban on leaving the territory. But he had managed to leave at the end of the year to take refuge in Lebanon, believing that he would not have received a fair trial when he denied all the charges.

Carlos Ghosn, 65, was forced to step down as CEO of Renault on January 23, 2019, when he was in prison in Japan.
