Eighth consecutive time: Decrease in US-Mexico border detention
“Trump policies are working,” said immigration authorities, who have arrested a little less than 30,000 people over the past month. Last May, 132,000 people were arrested, but there have been significant declines since then. CBP Commissioner: “We now have the opportunity to enforce the laws well”

According to the Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP), during January, 29,200 people on the southern border were arrested, up from 32,858 arrests that occurred the previous month. Of course, not all detainees were for attempted penetration into the United States, but the figure appropriately reflects the number of people trying to enter the United States illegally.
Looking ahead to January 2019, we can see a large gap, since 47,979 people were arrested a year ago. However, the current figure is still high compared to the number of arrests made in January 2018 – 25,975. The peak month, incidentally, was recorded last May when no fewer than 132,856 migrants were arrested on the southern border.
According to many in the Trump administration, the main reason for the decline is changes in immigration policy. Last month, Mark Morgan – the CBP commissioner – said “the changes President Trump has made allow us to enforce the laws well, increase border security and properly treat detainees.”
