On Saturday, UAE-backed forces arrested two leaders of the southern resistance, backed by Saudi Arabia, as they stormed a hotel in the center of the temporary Yemeni capital, Aden, according to local media.
And the southern resistance forces armed armed formations, fight the Houthis, and belong to southern provinces.
The southern resistance formations were divided into a section that supports the legitimate government (supported by Saudi Arabia), and the last supporter of the Transitional Council (UAE-backed) and fights under the name of the “security belt”.
Yemeni media reported that “a force of the UAE-backed security belt arrested the two leaders, Ahmed Al-Awsaji and Bajash Al-Subaihi, while they were inside a hotel in the Al-Hashemi area in central Aden.”
Sources in the Southern Resistance reported that the two leaders are in Aden at the request of Saudi Arabia, with the aim of establishing new military forces in the city.
Aden has seen increasing Saudi influence since the announcement of the Riyadh agreement between the Yemeni government and the southern-backed Transitional Council in the United Arab Emirates last November.
Last week, Emirati-backed forces raided the house of Muhammad Tahir (appointed by Saudi Arabia as head of the Security Belt Payroll Committee) and took him to an unknown destination.
In the beginning of last August, the temporary capital, Aden, witnessed heavy fighting between the two parties (the Yemeni government and the southern transitional), which ended with the latter’s complete control of the city, amid accusations from the government of the UAE of organizing a coup against it similar to the Houthi coup in the capital, Sanaa, in late September 2014 .
