It was the discovery of a profound criticality on the static nature of the Cerrano viaduct of the A14 that prompted the investigating judge of Avellino Francesco Ficcone on 18 December to impose the stop to the movement of heavy vehicles on the important Abruzzese bridge. The new element that emerged during an investigation by the Avellino public prosecutor’s office parallel to that of New Jersey following the accident of the bus on the Monteforte Irpino viaduct in 2013. with which the viaduct was built they have undergone displacements such as to make the opposite surfaces, in correspondence of the center line, flattened one on the other, while in correspondence of the piles there are displacements in depth of the order of seven centimeters.
What Autostrade per l’Italia says
Autostrade per l’Italia claims that the 7 cm displacement does not refer to the piles, but to the maximum displacement of the soil near pile 1 recorded by the instrumentation over 3 years (2016-2018). Therefore, this value does not refer to the viaduct piles, which never reached any significant movement in the period considered. However, the ban must be respected, and the consequences for circulation are already more than evident. Today there have also been queues of 10 kilometers between the junction with the A25 Rome-Pescara and the Pescara Nord exit precisely because of the reduction of the roadway (the peak occurred on January 7, with over 16 kilometers of queues). Between Pineto and Pescara there is also the blockade of trucks, diverted to state highway 16 to avoid the Cerrano viaduct, and this causes situations on the verge of collapse on the entire road network. Heavy vehicles, forced to travel the ordinary roads between Pineto, Silvi, Citt Sant’Angelo and Montesilvano, weigh down the traffic already congested daily.
Hijacked traffic
In the afternoon a new black out. The traffic police have just informed us – the governor, Marco Marsilio reports – at 6.30 pm that he has diverted all heavy traffic along the A25 to try to lighten the situation on state road 16 between Silvi and Pineto. This means for example that, to reach the Mosciano toll booth from Pescara north and rejoin the A14, you have to go the wide way, passing through Bussi and L’Aquila and also taking an hour and a half more than usual. They no longer know what to invent because there is no alternative viability – Marsilio increases the dose – all day that we solicit a response from Aspi and the Ministry. We ask to be quick, we have no more time to waste, we are no longer able to bear this discomfort.
